THE first, and as it happens the most desirable spin-off from the installation of Eco Wash for Bendor Shell was a notable increase in turnover.

Ben Schempers Jr., who manages the busy Polokwane service station with his father and wife, Irene, tells: “We saw an increase in our turnover within the first month of installing Eco Wash. Our convenience store, in particular, has gone from strength to strength.”

So much has Eco Wash impressed the community in Polokwane that the Schempers family decided to expand it with more wash bays, a coffee kiosk and a dedicated wi-fi area where clients can check e-mails and surf the web while their cars are being Eco-washed.

“We studied Shell Head Office’s approved car wash suppliers and made the right decision. We have a nice big area with trees and we put our wash bays in among them, followed by the other innovations. Some days we can’t keep up. We’re washing in excess of 50 cars a day on good days, up to 15 even on rainy days – we’re nearing 1000 vehicles a month and we are delighted and happy with the product, so are the clients of Bendor,” Ben Jr. comments.

The occasional heavily soiled car or truck is sprayed off with a water WAP-machine and Ben says: “We don’t use this often, but some farmers from the area do have huge mud cakes under their wheel arches and then the WAP comes in handy, but overall Eco Wash does the job extremely well!”

Bendor Shell has three Eco Wash Units and 14 rotating staff working on a rotational grid. On quiet days at the pumps, one unit is used as a roving service – for clients in nearby office parks and parking areas. “This is proving to be popular too, clients enjoy the convenience. We always have staff on standby because we believe that a car wash shouldn’t take longer than 20 minutes to complete. People hate sitting around for hours, waiting.”
